If you have a juicer, does it bother you when all that stripped-away pulp goes in the trash?

Well, I've got two ways you can make use of it!

1. Dog Biscuits

It occurred to me all the stuff I scoop out of the juicer is stuff Archer likes (or would at least eat). Apple, carrots, celery... So I put them all in a bowl, threw in some

  • whole-grain flour
  • an egg
  • a handful of shredded cheese

Once you mix it all together it isn't watery, so you can smear it onto a greased cookie sheet and cut it into whatever shapes you'd like with a cookie cutter or knife. Big biscuits to keep them busy, little bitty ones for quick rewards... just smear it about 1/2 inch thick so they bake nice and crunchy!

Be aware there are things you shouldn't feed your dog, like

  • grapes
  • cherries
  • avocados (not really a juicer thing, but FYI...)
  • onions, leeks, chives (why you'd be juicing them, I don't know...) 

muffins2. Trash Muffins

I've also been doing basically the same thing for myself, turning the juicer trash into muffins with this mouthwatering name.

You can mix together just about anything and it will turn out pretty well. Here's an example:

Juicer trash, flour, honey/sugar/sweetener, bit of salt, bit of baking powder, an egg, vanilla butter and oil, splash of OJ, splash of milk...

TIPS:

  • As you mix it together, taste it. What it tastes like as batter is what it will taste like as a baked muffin. If it isn't sweet enough for you, add more sweetness.
  • Don't forget an egg to hold it all together
  • They can be pretty dry if you don't add a little butter, milk, OJ or vegetable oil to the mix. You can leave all of it out if you don't mind dry muffins, but if the mixture seems super dry, you might want to add some liquid. It will never be as liquid as cake batter, but if it isn't at least moist and squishy before you start baking, you're going to want to add some liquid or fat.

Put the mixture into a cupcake tin and bake for about 20 minutes at 375.

BONUS: You can do the same thing with bananas that have gone too mushy to eat!
